The City of Thompson, “Hub of the North” is the regional trade and service centre of Northern Manitoba. The city is located 739 kilometers north of Winnipeg. Thompson boasts an excellent transportation system of scheduled daily air service, overnight truck delivery and paved roads.
The city is a dynamic northern community of approximately 13,500 residents and serves as a trade centre for an additional 36,000 – 65,000 Manitobans. It has all the services and amenities that would be expected in a much larger, urban center.
Thompson is unique in that it is set in the ruggedly beautiful Canadian shield, amongst numerous pristine lakes in the heart of the Boreal Forest.
A half hour drive south of the city is the scenic Paint Lake Provincial Recreational Park encompassing Manitoba’s larges marina. The shaded picnic grounds are bordered by two sand beaches, lake side cottages, boating rentals and an abundance of fishing.
The city has a river air base, where planes may be chartered for trips to the wilderness. Mystery Mountain, just outside of Thompson offers downhill skiing and snowboarding, cross country skiing, and a biathlon range. Snowmobiling ix extremely popular around Thompson with more than 200 miles of groomed trails between Thompson and Sasagiu Rapids.
There is a wide array of arts, crafts and musical groups which enrich the community.
Thompson truly provides a unique northern experience.
